Cruise to Cozumel, Belize, Rhoatin; March 2015

We had a lovely cruise with Bert/Betty and Greg/Sue.  We sailed on the Norweigen Jewel leaving out of Houston, Texas’ Bayport Terminal.

The first and second days we traveled on the sea.  The food was excellent and we saw some fun shows with singing and dancing from the on-board staff.

The third day we arrived in Cozumel, Mexico.  Sandy and Craig went snorkeling and Greg/Sue, Bert/Betty went shopping.

The fourth day we arrived in Belize.  We went to see Mayan ruins called Lamani, which means submerged crocodile. We got to the ruins traveling through the jungle in a boat.  We saw crocodiles (if you look carefully you can see one in the pictures) and colorful birds.  At Lamoni, we saw the “High Temple” and the “Jaguar Temple”.  The structures were very large and impressive; we were mightily impressed that people back then engineered and built such buildings.  Wentworth was our guide and seemed fairly knowledgeable about the archealogical history of the site.  During the tour we saw a family of monkeys in the jungle (again, if you look carefully you can see one in the pictures).  We also made friends with a couple from Texas—Shane and April.  They are both in the military and we had interesting conversations about Afghanistan and Iraq, where he had served.   They seemed genuinely interested in building strong family relationships.

The fifth day we spent at a resort location in Rhoatan, Honduras.  This is a small island with some beautiful beaches.  Moody Jones, our guide, took us to a resort and we snorkeled for about four hours.  We saw a huge lobster and a scorpion fish (lion fish)  among other fish.

We cruised at sea for the final two days.  We saw an interesting fruit carving demonstration, but other than that it was mostly eat, eat, and eat some more.
